There was a time when money occupied much of my life. I wanted to earn more, succeed, build security and become free from worry. I had known success, and I thought I understood what it meant to be prosperous.
Later, I lost much of what I had worked for. I trusted people who let me down. I lost money repeatedly. For years, I found myself struggling emotionally and searching for a way out of a period that seemed to have no end.
I wanted to recover my losses. I wanted to succeed again. I wondered whether having more money would finally make me feel secure. And yet, the more desperately I pursued that answer, the more I seemed to be driven by money itself.
I was not only looking at money. I was watching my own reactions to money.
Fear. Expectation. Impatience. Hope. Desire. Attachment. These emotions were not occasional interruptions. They shaped how I perceived a situation and how I chose to act.
When fear came, I treated fear as an instruction. When impatience came, I rushed. When the urge to recover a loss arrived, I was tempted to follow it without questioning it.
Gradually, something began to change. It was not because I found a secret formula or someone who could tell me what to do. I began to observe my own emotions as though I were watching them from a little distance.
There is a person here who feels afraid. There is a person who wants more. There is a person who becomes angry or impatient. I can notice what is happening without automatically doing what the emotion seems to demand.
Feeling an emotion and choosing to act on it are two different things.
That distinction changed how I related to money and to trading. Wanting to make a profit is not the same as being ruled by the need for profit. Holding money is not the same as being attached to it. I do not claim to have mastered every reaction. I am still observing and learning.
So much of what sustains us has already been given to us.
Our bodies, the environment around us, the Earth itself, the society we live in—even money as a tool. I began to see these things less as possessions I must control and more as resources I am fortunate to be able to use.
We can use a tool with care. We can become obsessed with acquiring more of it. Or we can let it shape our days so completely that we lose sight of the life we wanted to live.
Often we keep choosing the same emotional response without noticing that a choice is taking place. I did that for a long time.
Somewhere in the world there may be someone who feels as I once did: caught between fear and desire, measuring their worth through money, waiting for something to change. I do not want to tell that person how to live or promise to rescue them.
I want to help make room for them to notice something for themselves.
There are no shortcuts to a life that belongs to you. It is your attention, your choices, and your actions that give that life its direction. What I can do is share the experience that brought me here and the research I have carried out.
